South Bend, Indiana is named for the city’s southern position on the St. Joseph River. In the early 1820s a trader named Alexis Coquillard built a cabin near the St. Joseph River and is widely regarded as the founder of South Bend. This Cabin has been restored and can be visited today! South Bend is also home to the prestigious University of Notre Dame, ranking in the top 4% of national universities. The city offers a range of things to do for entertainment such as visiting the Potawatomi Zoo, exploring all three floors of the Studebaker Museum, watching the game at Four Winds Field or taking a nice night stroll through the River Lights Plaza.
