Tampa, Florida was founded in 1887. A year prior to 1887, the first cigar factory was established on the corner of East 7th Avenue and North 15th Street. Specializing in the making of hand-rolled Cuban cigars, the city expanded quickly and more cigar factories opened up, earning Tampa the nickname “Cigar City.” These days, you can visit El Reloj, Tampa’s last-operating cigar factory, to take a tour of the building, visit their store or attend a class to learn to hand-roll a cigar yourself. The cigar industry may have built this city, but there is much more to Tampa than cigars! This coastal city has plenty more to see and do.
